My name is Jason Wheaton. This is my first blog post ever…And here we go!!

I’ve been in the tech industry for over 20 years, but never have had much experience on the social networking front.  Though I have a passion for technology, I never got into social networking much and putting myself out there via blogs or Facebook.  But the time has come to try something new, get out there, and share what’s in my noggin!

My passion, on a business level, is virtualization and storage.  I love the abstraction of the hardware layer and the great things you can do on a budget with virtual hypervisors.   According to Gartner, virtualized environments have tipped the scales and now account for more than 50% of business workloads.  Some estimate it to be more than 90% in five years.  There is such freedom in abstracting the hardware and focusing on the workload instead of the underpinnings.

On a personal level, a few years back, I decided to “cut the cord” and dump the cable company.  In my research, I discovered a whole cottage industry around building DVRs from PCs and Macs.  I ended up with a great piece of software called BeyondTV and setup some Standard Definition and High Definition tuners to link into the DVR.  I could record FOUR streams simultaneously.  I enjoy this hobby and I am always interested in DIY TV.  There are limitations, but most are surmountable or acceptable for the cost-conscious.

So, in the coming months, I’ll blather on about things that I like and trends I see in the marketplace…And hopefully you enjoy what I have to say.

For my co-worker and Microsoft Engineer, Jason Borders, when you aren’t working with the latest from Redmond, I’m happy to say you can now connect to vSphere from your Macintosh, using the vSphere 5.1 Web Client.  [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJN0RS1Ucb8&w=560&h=315]  In fact, as specified and blogged about, vSphere 5.1’s new features are ONLY available through the web client.  The old C# vSphere client will pass into the night going forward.

Till next time!
