“What is Your New Year’s Resolution?” Woman Climbing Mountain

This question was posed during one of our recent staff meetings and one-by-one we went around the room sharing our 2013 resolutions and plans.

Now, I’m usually not at a loss for words or ideas, but as soon as the question was asked I went completely blank, my mind a vapid space…and I was up next!

That’s when I had to admit to everyone, “Hey, I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, but I hope to have an amazing year with less stress and more time with my friends and family.” Though very true at its core, it sounded extremely lame to me.  So, I started thinking more about it and that’s when I realized it’s time to put on my big girl pants and focus on new challenging goals and dreams.

So, where to start?

Where do I find the motivation or direction to reach farther, do more, find greatness, be held accountable? There are still so many things I want to conquer, to see, to do, to achieve. And true to everything else, I figured, there must be an app to help me do just that…several apps, actually. Some are more “bucket list/big idea” driven, while others aim to focus on time-sensitive milestones and achievements.

Here are a few apps I liked and think you may enjoy using, as well:

1) GoalsiO – I love using this app on my phone to add reminders and deadlines for the day-to-day milestones, as well as, the bigger picture landmarks. It’s easy to categorize, update, edit, and keep track of accomplishments over time with this app. You can even add a picture for each goal for inspiration and/or of you achieving your goals.
2) Bucket (Life) List FREE – This is awesome for the “big dreams” you want to achieve before you die – obviously. Everyone should have a bucket list and this app makes it easy to add new ideas with expected completion dates. The interface is very simplistic, but if you don’t need a bunch of bells and whistles, this app does the job.
3) 43 Things – If you are looking for some inspiration or support to get started, download this app! It is great for sharing your progress, gaining outside support, and cheering on others.  You can also link your account to your Facebook and share your life achievements with friends and family.

So, starting today, I am compiling my personal and professional goals to achieve this year, five years from now, and farther down the road. I already have a few in the docket, like taking a dance class, learn more about SEO, and improve my Spanish speaking skills.

What are you going to do in 2013? Share your goals and ideas with us.

Here’s to a wonderful and successful 2013!
